Fondazione Banca delgi Occhi del Veneto Onlus (FBVO) and European Eye bank (EEBA)
Fondazione Banca degli Occhi del Veneto Onlus (Veneto Eye Bank Foundation) is a non-profit, social welfare organization and regional centre of reference for cornea transplantation and research into epithelial stem cells. Fondazione is today one of the leading eye banks in Europe and the most important organised structure in Italy for the retrieval, testing, processing, preservation, storage and distribution of human ocular tissue for transplant and for the treatment of pathologies of the anterior segment of the eye .
In 2003, on request of the European Eye Bank Association, Fondazione agreed to host and staff the Secretariat for EEBA, and act as the legal seat for the Association. In this regard EEBA was formally recognised in Italy
The European Eye Bank Association is a technical-scientific organization comprising individual members from 84 eye banks from 24 European countries and international colleagues. It is located at the offices of the Venice Eye Bank in Venice, Italy. Founded in 1989 with the simple objective of sharing information regarding eye-banking, the Association is today the leading pan-European association dedicated to the advancement of eye-banking and an authoritative reference point for eye banks wishing to work according to quality standards. Because EEBA has contact with 84 eye banks in 24 European countries they are uniquely placed drive WP 6 and recruit Universities and Eye Hospital to contribute to the project.
